Antony (Yehuda) Benjamin

Antony (Yehuda) Benjamin is an American artist living in New
Haven, Connecticut. He began his art career as a student in
London, attending St. Martin’s School of Art, ultimately
graduating with an honors degree in Graphic Design. Working
as a Designer and Creative Director, Antony began a long career
in advertising which led to the founding of Oxygen Advertising,
a creative boutique which he formed with a partner. He also
worked as an adjunct Professor at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn,
one of the country’s top art schools.
His current focus on drawing and realism came full circle, as his
initial student portfolio had included a number of hyperrealistic
drawings of British chocolate bars and sweets. Fascinated by
the possibility of creating realistic, highly detailed images with
just colored pencils, Antony began developing a series of large
drawings of kosher candies, food and still life subjects. Taking
30-40 hours to complete and working from original photo set-
ups shot with an iPhone, the emphasis is on creating shadow
and contrast that help the final drawings leap from the page.
Drafting images that are far larger than the real-life objects
themselves creates a jarring, compelling visual that reminds us
of the 60’s Pop Art movement.
